The Diprotodon Fossil Bones

Australia's Giant Prehistoric Wombat

​

The largest marsupial to walk the earth, some of their bones are in the Burra Railway Station.

​

The fossilised bones were found not far from here in the hills

​

Roughly 1.8 metres tall and up to 13.7 metres long

​

Had a pouch like a kangaroo

​

Vegetarian, ate grasses, leaves and shrubs and sometimes dug for food.

Lived about 45,000 years ago when the first Aboriginal people were living in Australia.

​

First Nation people have stories about the giant  "Kudimukras" who walked the land with them
